Osborn Community Assessment Project: OCAP
This community-University partnership was a collaborative effort between several ASU faculty and the administration and teachers of an inner-city school District. The goals were to identify strengths and weaknesses within the school system that contributed to children’s academic achievement and school behavior.
This project spanned 6 years and involved qualitative interviews and focus groups with administrators, teachers, staff, and parents as well as annual surveys of teachers and children. The survey data were combined with archival data on attendance, discipline referrals, and achievement test scores. In addition, data were obtained from the 2000 Census and annual criminal reports for each neighborhood as well as from qualitative observations recorded during systematic walking tours of the neighborhood.
